Philly, PA, USA

What to expect in... Philly

15. One-way streets
The streets are small because they're old. Nowadays, most of the streets downtown are one-way streets.

14. South Street
This is a cool place to hang out with lots of music, local art, and parties. It's got a lot of character.

13. Rocky
The guy that symbolizes the city. You have to watch the at least the first movie before coming to Philly.

12. The Reading Terminal Market
A train station-turned-market with lots of international, local, and Pennsylvania Dutch food. Here you feel part of the city.

11. Tastykakes
Little Debbie's are nasty in comparison.
Pick some up at Wawa.

10. Architecture
Philly has really pretty architecture, especially the art nouveau and colonial buildings.

9. Ben Franklin
This inventor/politician/statesman/scientist is a pretty big deal.

8. Higher Education
They have so many smart people here, you'd think they'd be able to run a city better.

7. Diversity
Philly has a strong history of immigration. There's people from almost everywhere.

6. Passionate sports fans
They're phanatic and not afraid to start a fight.

5. The city that doesn't love you back
Feel free to bring a gun—crime is high.

4. Cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, hoagies, and pizza
If you hold the pizza or cheesesteaks sideways, the grease flows down.
Maybe that's why obesity rates are so high here.
Side note - when it comes to sandwiches, it's all about the roll.

3. The arts
Philly is one of the country's premiere centers for the arts.

2. Attitude
Don't expect lots of smiles or compliments. Actually, you should expect the opposite.

1. US history
This is where America began. The Declaration of Independence and the U.S Constitution were written here.

"History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake." - Ron Swanson
